Beware The Pain Fairy Commercial – Behind the Scenes

This is a Behind the Scenes made by Dave Dugdale from LearningDSLRVideo.com. Sterling-Rice Group (an ad agency in Boulder CO) was kind enough to let me film BTS footage of their “Pain Fairy” ad spots. Dave used a Canon T2i/550D to film this about 3 months ago. I also used Luke Neumann’s color presets on most of these shots.

You can watch two of the commercials below – they were shot on the Canon 5D Mark II.

Behind the Scenes of VW’s Black Beetle Commercial

One of the standout spots from this year’s crop of Super Bowl commercials was undoubtedly Volkswagen’s Black Beetle which trailed the forthcoming launch of the new 21st Century VW Beetle. This Super Bowl stunner features an exquisitely animated, striped beetle that dodges natural foes in the woods with the prowess of a 21st Century VW Beetle in a heart-pounding car chase.

Alongside MJZ director Dante Ariola and agency Deutsch, The Mill London’s team of artists pulled out all the VFX stops to create the realistic CG beetle and its insect friends. Take a look at how they did it in this special Making Of fillm.

Would you like to see more?

Here you have a fascinating behind-the-scenes video that gives you an up-close and personal look at the making of the entomological, CGI wonderland of the Black Beetle. Tom Bussell and Juan Brockhaus, The Mill Lead 3D Artists on “Beetle”, say they created an animatic from Ariola’s storyboards to provide a blueprint for timings and how the edit would work. They researched not only iconic car chases, but watched documentaries and observed real-life footage of insects to make the spot’s cast as believable as possible.

How to shoot a fast car with a DSLR

Martin Steinmann takes us behind the scene to this nicely filmed photoshoot made with a Canon EOS 550D, a Glidetrack and a Gyros KS-6.

Some time ago I was invited to shoot a „Behind the Scenes“. Knowing that things would be a bit rough, I asked myself: should I bring my trusted HV30 or give my daughter’s 550D a chance? I did not regret my decision. Filmed and edited using Canon 550D (T2i) and Final Cut Pro
