Cinematographer Matt Kleiner Interview

I would like to present a very interesting interview on Cameraman.com. His name is Matt Kleiner, a filmmaker and cinematographer based in California and having an affinity for all things ocean. Matt’s imagery is strongly focused around the concept of water and the natural beauty surrounding coastal areas. With surfing being a huge influence in his life, he has used the act of wave riding as a primary source for his focus and creativity.

With three feature length films, several music videos and magazine covers to his credit, Matt’s imagery can be seen around the world. His films have been an official selection at numerous film festivals including the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, International Surf Film Festival Anglet, Ombak Bali, Newport Beach Film Festival and many others.

Watch Matt’s Showreel of the first part of 2011 and then discover this short interview where he tell us how he started his career. The reel show some of his favourite shots from recent music videos, surf films, travel documentaries, commercials and short films. Filmed throughout North America, Australia and Indonesia.

Interview with Cameraman and Aerial Photographer Yannick Barthe

Yannick Barthe studied Engineering Sciences and works in an Electronic Manufacturing company in Switzerland. Yannick is also an independent filmmaker, cameraman, and photographer. You will find him at airfields or on the top of mountains filming all types of aircraft, capturing his unique perspective on the beauty of flight.

Yannick at work - Shooting aerial Sequences

Cameraman: Hi Yannick, tell us a bit more about yourself and what do you do?

Yannick: Hi. My name is Yannick Barthe. I’m 30 and was born and live in Switzerland. I studied Engineering Sciences in Electronics and Multimedia. I’ve got three jobs. During the week, I’m a quality manager in an Electronic Manufacturing company in Delémont (Switzerland). The rest of the time (including nights and weekends) I’m a cameraman and aerial photographer. In 2004, my brother and I created Aeromedia-concept. Together we developed a revolutionary system mounting a DSLR camera on a radio controlled helicopter specially designed and built for aerial photography. Customers include architects and other private clients. In 2008 we added thermal imaging capability using a special infrared camera. And finally, I’m a freelancer cameraman, editor and videomaker filming aircraft, helicopter and glider on airshows around Europe. I’ve been working for 5 years in the field of aviation.

In 2009 I met the firedancer Franziska Neuhaus. Together we discover and create movement and dance videos such as fire dance, flag dance by day and by night, recording in Switzerland or Spain. Today we are partners in life as well as in work. She also helps me a lot during my filming works.
